Whilst the wintry January spell lasts, I love to spend hours and hours in my sun room, swarmed with funky junkie stuff and there I sit, thinking how can I utilize them in the most useful way! Recently, I am hitting on the miscellaneous cardboard boxes piled in the attic upstairs, waiting to be reused again someday!

I love them, as they are sturdy boxes, colored magnificently and my artistic vibes keep hinting me to use them as a sundry collection, for the little things I need around my house and certainly, while so much ecofriendly waste stuff lies fading away in the attic, like my old rusting piano, dithering atlases, weather-beaten garden articles, waning almanacs, piles of books, calloused picture albums and lots more, certainly, there is no wisdom in buying newer things and cramming up the place even more!

Being a mariner’s daughter, there are lots and lots of cardboard shipping boxes in our house, as well as cigarette boxes, wine boxes and a lot of similar stuff, used frequently by the seafarers.  Our house is planted in the heart of Istanbul, right across the glistening blue waters of the Bosporus Sea and due to this charismatic blend of the two continents, Asia and Europe, I’m fortunate to have the best of these most beautiful lands in the world. All my life, I would stand in my window, watching the boxes unload, unpack and weave their way into our house as my dad would fondly bring dazzling gifts from every hidden corner of this planet, before our very eyes!
