Prescription pain relievers are medications that are used to relieve the pain of prolonged diseases or chronic medical conditions. These include antidepressants, anti-seizure medications, opioids which are lab-made drugs specifically designed to alter your brain on how it perceives pain messages.

These medications are prescribed rarely or when the doctor thinks it’s necessary because they are addictive. Morphine is one such opioid. Steroids are also a kind of prescribed pain reliever because they are strong to use on your own or without the doctor’s consultation.

The common conditions these medications are for can be cancer, ITP, nerve pain, severe arthritis pain, fibromyalgia, etc.

Apart from these medications, therapies like physical therapy or occupational therapy are also ways to treat certain pains that develop after a surgery or a certain medical condition like multiple sclerosis or a fracture.

Although these medications prove to be very effective in relieving pain, they have some side effects such as nausea, constipation, vomiting, extreme tiredness, or insomnia.

Music or Art therapy: Using music or art as a way to heal oneself has also proven to be an effective method to get relief from different health conditions. Cancer patients are advised to paint, dance, and view art because it helps in easing the effects the illness can have on patients like depression, anxiety, mood changes.

Making or creating art or listening to music changes the wave patterns in the brain, releasing a substance that helps patients release piled-up emotions by expressing them, which reduces stress and anxiety in them.

Heat and cold therapy: This therapy is commonly accessible because it involves treating your pain with a heating pad/bag or ice. If you suffer from pain related to muscles or stiffness, or even menstrual cramps, go for heat therapy by using a hot water bag or heating pads.

However, if there is an inflammation or some swelling that causes severe pain, then ice therapy is the best to numb that affected area or where you feel the pain for 10 to 15 minutes. This therapy can only work if you want instant relief from certain pains. It doesn’t prove effective for long-term pain.

There are multiple ways to control and manage pain, and it’s highly important that if you feel any kind of pain, you should immediately see a doctor because some pains indicate a deeper health issue that needs to be addressed foremost.

Prioritising pain can lead to you understanding your health conditions if you have any, and the sooner you do that, the sooner your treatment starts, which will allow you to lead a healthy and active life.
