More Fun in Life

3 Reasons to Have More Fun in Life

As we grow older, it might seem that having fun is less and less of a priority. We have work to do, and a home to take care of, and possibly a family to provide for too. Every moment seems to be taken up by chores and ‘must-do’ things that leave little room for having any real fun. A lack of time, a feeling that it wouldn’t be the ‘grown-up’ thing to do, or maybe even a feeling of guilt often prevents us from letting loose and having a truly good time.

The problem is, life shouldn’t be like that. With all the technology and advantages we have today, having fun really should be something we do more of – work is important, of course, but there is more to life than this, or at least there should be. Read on to find out just why having fun is so important; there are more reasons than you might think.

Better Relationships

Research shows that when we are having more fun, the relationships we’re in, from romantic to being around work colleagues, improve. This is because when you can have fun with someone you are being your authentic self, so feelings of trust are developed. You are also going to be communicating more, so a bond can more easily form. It won’t mean you have to suddenly be best friends with the person working with you, but it will make that work a lot easier and more enjoyable.

When you are having fun, you will be:

  • More trustworthy
  • More approachable
  • More friendly
  • Showing that you share values with others
  • Able to give non-verbal messages
  • Resolving conflict
  • More productive

Smarter

Science tells us many things, and one thing that it tells us about having fun is that it can even make you smarter. That’s due to the fact that concentration and memory are both improved when we’re enjoying ourselves more, and when we’re bored and not having such a great time, we don’t tend to remember very much about the situation apart from the feeling it brought with it.

If you want to feel smarter and you want to be more productive, it’s a good idea to have a hobby you can enjoy on a regular basis such as painting, running, or driving used luxury sports cars so that when you get to work you’re still enjoying the fun feeling this hobby gave you. It will help immeasurably.

Less Stress

Everyone has a little stress in their lives from time to time. This is only normal and completely natural, and our bodies and brains are designed to cope with this, even going into fight or flight mode to help us get past the danger.

The problem is, sometimes the stress does not go away once the ‘danger’ has passed, and this leads to chronic stress which causes heart problems, mental health disorders, muscle tension, migraines, and many more problems besides.

The more fun you can have, the less stressed you will feel, and the healthier you will be overall. No matter what is bothering you, if you can spare the time to participate in something fun, you will feel so much better, and may even be able to see a solution to your problem that you couldn’t see when stress was clouding your thoughts.
