Hydrogen Vehicles, like all-electric vehicles, use electricity to power an electric motor. Unlike other electric vehicles, Vehicles generate electricity using a hydrogen-powered fuel cell rather than relying solely on a battery. The vehicle manufacturer defines the power of the vehicle during the vehicle design process by the size of the electric motor(s) that receive electric power from the appropriately sized fuel cell and battery combination. Although automakers could design an Hydrogen Vehicles with plug-in charging capabilities, most Hydrogen Vehicles today use the battery for recapturing braking energy, providing extra power during short acceleration events, and smoothing out the power delivered by the fuel cell with the option to idle or turn off the fuel cell during low power needs. The size of the fuel tank determines the amount of energy stored onboard. In contrast, in an all-electric vehicle, the amount of power and energy available is proportional to the size of the battery.
