“Openness · Innovation · Leadership” — Guangming Science City Forum 2025 Opens in Shenzhen
The Guangming Science City Forum 2025 officially opened on December 4 at the Shenzhen Science & Technology Museum, bringing together scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers to spotlight frontier research, major innovation milestones, and new pathways for collaboration.
Hosted by the People’s Government of Guangming District, Shenzhen, the forum adopted the theme “Openness · Innovation · Leadership” and positioned Guangming Science City as a key contributor to China’s push for higher-level scientific and technological self-reliance.
Forum Format: A “1+1+7” Agenda Focused on Science, Industry, and Cooperation
This year’s program followed a “1+1+7” structure—an opening ceremony, a plenary session, and seven parallel forums. The agenda highlighted progress across major scientific infrastructure, intelligent computing, life sciences, and high-end scientific instruments, while promoting deeper integration between industry, academia, and research.
Five Major Achievements Announced at the Opening Ceremony
A key highlight of the opening day was the release of five major achievements, reflecting both platform-building and ecosystem investment in Guangming Science City. These included:
- Trial operation launch of the National Industrial Innovation Center for Bio-manufacturing
- Inauguration of the Shenzhen Center for High-end Scientific Instruments and the National University Regional Technology Transfer Center (Greater Bay Area)
- Completion of Phase II of The Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Shenzhen)
- Launch of the Shenzhen Guangming Sci-tech Innovation Fund of Funds and announcement of its first batch of sub-funds
- Establishment of User Committees for Synthetic Biology and Brain Science infrastructure
Frontier Talks: From Brain–Computer Interfaces to Sleep Mechanisms
The forum also featured expert insights on fast-moving research directions. Reports from the event highlight discussions around brain–computer interfaces, biological intelligence, sleep mechanisms, and related topics—reflecting the forum’s focus on translating frontier science into real-world innovation pathways.
Parallel Forums and Supporting Activities Showcased an “Open” Innovation Culture
Beyond the main stage, the seven parallel forums were organized around three broad directions—frontier science and technology, industrial development, and open cooperation—with sessions covering areas such as intelligent computing, life science imaging, scientific instruments, biomanufacturing, and brain–computer interfaces.
Supporting activities—such as rowing, hiking, and cycling—added a community and culture element to the event, reinforcing Guangming Science City’s emphasis on openness and vitality alongside research and industrial momentum.
