How to Spruce Up Your Home for Holiday Guests

The holidays are right around the corner and it’s time to clean up the house. One good reason to do this is if you expect to have a lot of guests traveling to your home. Many of us haven’t done a good house cleaning in years.  There might be areas you don’t want your guests to see at all.  Our homes are our pride and joy to show off to the guests who visit. Here are some tips to spruce up your home for the holidays before visitors arrive.

Paint

Take a step back and look at your house inside and out. You might notice paint chipping throughout and consider a fresh coat. It’s good to do a touch-up on your home where paint has rubbed off. Chipped paint is never a good look on any house. Snap a few pictures around the house to see which areas need recent paint the most.  If your home is in terrible shape, consider a professional painter.

Decorate

Depending on which holiday, consider decorating your home.  This is always a pleasant welcome when guests arrive to see your home lit up with Christmas or Halloween decorations. It shows you’re already in the holiday’s spirit and what kind of mood you’re in.  It is great to show guests you’re in a festive mood upon arrival.  This gets the party off on the right track.  Look for decorations that complement the type of home you have. It’s also important to not overdo it with decoration and not disrupt your neighbors.

Clean

It never hurts to hire a housecleaner to go through your entire home. This way, you can focus on other things to get ready for your guests. You’ll have confidence they’ll leave your home sparkling clean. Trying to clean the entire house yourself means you have to etch out time to do so.  If your house isn’t that big, then cleaning yourself isn’t such a big deal. The goal is to make sure the floors are clean, your best Pfister faucet shines, and the entire house is tidy. No one wants to visit a house that’s a mess on the holidays. It’s expected that your home will be clean and comfortable for any guest that arrives. Everything in the house from floors, furniture, windows, bathrooms, showers, sinks, and bedrooms must have a thorough cleaning.

New Furniture

The holidays might be the best time to get some new furniture.  Look around your house and consider upgrading old and dingy chairs or couches.  If you plan to have a lot of guests over, then think about adding more furniture.  Check out the second-hand stores as they often have good furniture that needs a little love and care.  It’s also a great idea to find holiday furniture that’s inexpensive that relates to the holiday you’re trying to celebrate. It’s a fun and festive way to get in the mood for the holiday and impress your guests when they arrive.

Plan Ahead

When the holidays are getting closer, think about planning ahead when tidying up your home. Write a list of everything that needs an upgrade.  There’s no sense in putting yourself in debt, but make sure you have enough money to make the upgrade a reality. Consider whether or not a cleaning crew is necessary or if you can touch up the paint yourself. This way you can save money and not worry about an extra bill. Stick to your plan and be prepared before the holiday months so you’re not in a rush.

These are a few ways to spruce up your home for holiday guests. Think about a new paint job for your home. Decorate with festive colors and artwork to impress guests. Consider outside decorations in the yard or along the house.  Make sure your entire house is cleaned. If the job is too much for you, then hire a professional housekeeper. Think about getting new furniture if you have old ragged chairs or sofas. This is never a good look if you intend on having a lot of people over to your house during the holidays. Always plan ahead so you’re not left scrambling around to get everything ready in one day.
