According to philosophy, Lord Mahavira was 24th and last Tirthankara. A Tirthankara is an enlightened soul who is born as a human being and attains perfection through intensive meditation. At the age of 30, Vardhamana left home to seek spiritual awakening. For the next twelve and a half years he practiced rigorous meditation and penance before becoming omniscient. After attaining Kevala his Jnana, he travelled to the Indian subcontinent and taught Jain philosophy for the next thirty years.
